About Professor Jerold Jones
Professor Jerold Jones was a respected leader and educator in the fields of Architectural and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas, where he dedicated 30 years to teaching and mentoring students. Serving as President in 1977, he was also an active and influential volunteer with ASHRAE. Throughout his career, Past President, Dr. Jones, led and contributed to numerous research projects and guided graduate students in the areas of HVAC and energy efficiency. His impact on the industry extended to his role as a member of the original ASHRAE Standard 90 committee in 1975. His legacy continues through the Professor Jerold Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund Endowment, honoring his commitment to education and innovation in engineering.
Scholarship Description
The Professor Jerold Jones Memorial Scholarship, established by the Austin ASHRAE Chapter, is a $1,500 annual award given to a University of Texas engineering student who has demonstrated an interest in the built environment at either the undergraduate or graduate level. The scholarship honors the legacy and contributions of Professor Jerold Jones.
application requirements
a.) Applicant shall be currently enrolled in an Engineering curriculum at The University of Texas at Austin at either the Undergraduate or Graduate level and related to the Built Environment.
b.) Applicant will submit a current transcript including grades from the most recent fall term with at least 12 total earned credits towards the degree and the current GPA (an unofficial transcript is acceptable).
c.) Applicant shall submit one letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the school that the student is attending that describes the student's academic standing, character, and contribution to the Industry.
d.) Applicant will be a member of a local student ASHRAE branch, current Austin ASHRAE member, or the spouse, child or grandchild of a current Austin ASHRAE member. In no case will a member who is applying for the scholarship (or related to a scholarship applicant) sit on the chapter scholarship review panel
e.) Applicant will submit a 100-200 Word Statement from the student explaining why the student wishes to study a discipline that relates to the Built Environment Industry
f.) Applicant will provide separate lists of activities outside of the industry and university and inside the university and industry
g.) Applicant will list the degree or degrees for which the scholarship will apply, as well as the expected graduation date.
Note: Scholarship requirements are in the process of being updated. Applications for this scholarship are currently closed, and will re-open with new requirements once these have been determined by the chapter scholarship committee.
